Paper or Plastic

Paper or Plastic

A Poem by Seebyrdie

Inside among the aisles shelved
With processed fruits and processed meats
Were they just processed kids
Scanned by the invisible barcode
Blipping their valued on the screen
With little red computer pixels
So cold and undiscerning.

Now bagged and paid for
This is for the best
In the back seat of a stranger’s car
Riding to a stranger’s home
Hearts beating fast with unshed tears
Fearing how they will be consumed
Hoping to feel wanted.
