dad

dad

A Poem by audrey horne
"

a poem for my father who died too soon.

"
i only remember bits and pieces of you,
like shards of a broken mirror.
i remember your brown eyes,
the funny way your teeth lined up,
and your salt-and-pepper beard.
i remember the way you held me when i cried,
and the day i had to say goodbye.
it was never supposed to be like this.
i was never supposed to live without you.

A very sad poem. Hard to lose a parent.
"it was never supposed to be like this.
i was never supposed to live without you. "
Poor kids learn sooner than later that they miss a kind and loving parent. Thank you for sharing the powerful and sad poetry for a missed father.

My dad passed recently and I have millions of memories of him but I, like you, I feel like it was never supposed to be like this. As selfish as it is, I wanted my father to live forever. While your words were conceived by sadness they have combined nicely as a fitting tribute to the love between a father and his daughter. Beautifully written!

I can't say I can completely empathize with what you've experienced as words can only express so much, even for poets. I'm deeply moved by this poignant and touching poem of yours.

A girls best friend in life is and always will be, her daddy.
This is testament to that and so natural to want them to be there when we are in a bad place.
This really moved me AH. God Bless
