Daddy's Shoes

Daddy's Shoes

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Make Believe in Daddy's Shoes

"

Daddy’s shoes calling

Imagination feels safe

One foot then two

And I’m standing in his place

For just a moment

I’m the king, soldier brave

Slaying dragons

Before the end of each day

And the next piloting

9 to 5 into outer space

Fighting off hordes of aliens

Saving the entire human race

When, finally the battles won

All riches are embrace

Flying home to the prince heir

Again, putting my enchanted shoes back in place

There they’ll be

Years to their inheritance

Waiting magically

For the next prince to lace

Daddy’s shoes calling

Imagination feels safe

One foot then two

And I’m standing in his place
