The Lonesome TruckerA Poem by Michael G. Smithmissing my loved one upon the open roadTender moments mercy need not be When on a pillow slept alone sight unseen No hand to hold nor reason a word to speak So far from home a spirit lonely indeed
So mind does but toss and turn Heart staving off a restless curse Of miles, love across A paved highway universe
And the trucker moves on He rolls and rolls Without a smile, and nothing but A bandaged heart and a lonesome soul
