Penny For Your ThoughtsA Poem by Michael G. SmithAn act of kindness goes a long long wayFrom along the paved
park walk An old man suddenly
stopped And held up a piece
of coin; tinged bronze Staring into my
direction said “A penny for your
thoughts”
My guess was a look upon my face May have hinted to
my awful state Or he simply read
my mind When from his pocket appeared a shiny dime And into the
wishing well threw it straight away
With a friendly smile
he strolled my way Sitting down next
to me upon the park bench Offered me half a sandwich
from his brown sack lunch Astonished I was
that an absolute stranger could care for me I spilled my guts
giving away all my thoughts for free
He never made snap
judgements or gave clichéd advice As I talked and
talked he just quietly listened Teaching me a valuable lesson, I realized One; I truly made a friend this day Secondly: Always carry a pocketful of pennies just in case you'd be the stranger needed in this way © 2017 Michael G. SmithReviews
