I am forever scribbling little notes and lines in a notebook I carry with me everywhere. Sometimes the poem just flows, other times it has to be wrested from the mind each word at a time. Those other time poems are often the ones I re-write or discard, perhaps temporarily, perhaps for always. Either way, I generally try to avoid being enigmatic just for the sake of it. It is difficult enough to get the gist of a poem, without having to figure out the myriad, and often unnecessary twists and turns that the writer has included. Such pointless convolution simply turns what should be an enjoyable few moments into a puzzle not worth trying to unravel.
It's interesting to try and understand the meaning of a poem, and interpretation is always part of the enjoyment for me. You are right though, sometimes a write seems just too convoluted to bother, and unnecessarily so in many cases.
Beccy.

I go back and read some of my ealier stuff and say "wow, this is crap!" I'm glad I'm humble enough to realize this but also understand it was a stepping stone lesson into the realm of better writing. Beccy thank you so much for your insight.
and trying to make it the bathroom before the "aha" moment...
don't always make it...and sometimes it gets frustrating when we get a buzz from poetry that really is just like spilled beer, and sounds like it comes from the barely sitting up drunk at the bar.

And a great metaphor this is, Mike! I think we have all imbibed in a poem, perhaps one too strong for our own sensibilities, and it just make our heads spin! Maybe this is why I pour short shots... They're a bit easier to swallow. ;)
you haven't had a drink in 16 years! congrats! Brilliant piece, too

I never was an alcoholic just a social drinker but I started thinking why do I feel the need to alter myself with a little buzz because each time I do I may be missing out on something more real. Meaning, I lost touch with the spirit me, the real me, the first me, when I altered my state.
