Socialite Butterfly

Socialite Butterfly

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Has to be life of the party

"

Socialite Butterfly

In every garden

You must be

You leave me merely with

The powder from

Your chiffon wings

You're simply happy

When with others

Among all the neon colors

Dancing here

And there

Look at me

When you try to mimic

You mock the real flowers

Blind to what they truly see

Socialite Butterfly

Mere beauty or possessions

Does not bring

Happily ever after

A well stated insight expressed in pretty little flower garden variety verses. In every garden, the beauty of a butterfly and a flower complement each other, but neither one replaces the other. For either one to try to outshine the other is futile.

It's almost always a mask, though perhaps equally, it is simply that some can never see the beauty of a flower no matter how hard they look.

Beccy.

Ah, I like it! The whole idea twists in the last two stanzas. I like the overall idea of the piece because I agree with it!
