Sea Hoary Mist

Sea Hoary Mist

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

The lost souls at sea

"

Sea hoary mist

In thee I sense a cry of love

Out of desperate fathoms as if...

A returning surge of wayward kiss

From my darling which thou was taken with

I feel his spirit

Brazen to escape the waves

Light touch upon my face

Vast ocean's spray

Memories now less bitter than taste

And yet I find

Myself lost here too

Somewhere amidst this crystal blue

On coastlines brine between thoughts align

The sea's mighty motion muse

Wondering where my man last sailed

Out upon the seas of life

I know beneath the nimbus

Bold titan which never dies

A blink within a tempest eyes

Thou dares to cross back now

After tides of time

Over breaks and slippery rock divides

Reaching once again to my heart inside

Telling me I'm the one who must survive

Emotions drench wet

Let slip a thousand tales

Nautical miles more wide

Of wishes and some regrets

But in the end it's what keeps us alive

Too often ships pass ghostly

Distant lights in the night

Leaving nights and lovers out to dry

Singsong sirens calling legends

Drowning pain which yet never dies

And waves windswept

Holding onto secrets treasure chest

While tears clash to when heard thy true history

Rhythms of ebb rise keep the sadness rolling

And the placid places reflect thy glory

So sea hoary mist

I blow to thee my own kiss

And toss into the direction of horizon's sun

A message rolled in an old bottle of rum

With last words of "farewell my seafaring love"

This is brilliant, I truly enjoyed this piece! The sea is such a mysterious and unknown thing, constantly hit with storms, tsunamis and its depths are rather mystified, yet it keeps moving. Everyday. Perhaps so much in life can be paralleled to that of the sea. Love your word usage here too. Thanks for writing this!

The tumultuous sea is a great metaphoric setting for love and loss. Well crafted. (coincidently read back to back with your poem with reference to waterfall mist).
