Hoping for the Firefly

Hoping for the Firefly

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Why did you do it?

"

Cries in the darkness

Clearly the cat claws its way out of a bag

As a query bore wings like faeries

Thus in question futility flutters

A firefly destined just without reach

Flies away into the night

Mingling with crowds of celestial bodies

The relevance further and evermore fleeting

I turn to you once again...

In silence, shrugging shoulders

Thinking, what was it all for

I never look back

And you never look down

Hoping for the firefly

That slipped out of the jar

And through your hands

The firefly - so elusive and intriguing. Much like cries in the dark... Wonderful imagery in this piece, Mike. Th fireflies and the stars... only one within reach... Well done!

thanks Rita.
Two tiny lights fly off and the two of you are left alone and in the dark. Beautifully done, Michael. The imagery was whimsical and brought back memories of evenings spent outside catching fireflies in bottles as a child.

Thank Rose, they are mystical creatures.
That firefly is ever alluring. Wonderful write, Mike. The imagery and parable-nature of this piece was outstanding.
