Where Were You and IA Story by Michael G. SmithReflective thoughts from my last marriage.Overheard hidden birds chirping I stopped to capture what serenity could To ponder and write this poetry Perhaps, learn a little more about our love
The melody was one of gaiety Made me deepen thought and wonder Where were you and I Up till now it seems, the same old song, over and over
I know those lovebirds somewhere Among the green palette leaves But, where were you and I, back I inquired Further still within myself, I and me
The birds held something To each other they could sing What did we have or hold Was there really anything
Messages; their unexpected songs Soothed a soul rubbed raw You and I, I'm not so sure If we could ever be, one again at all
Thoughts stuck like mud in the moment But, sparrows did take quick flight Where were you and I When they were gone, well out of sight
I put the pen down and the car into drive And headed on, a little bit further Trying to see us inside of nature I've searched meadow and hollow and still I find no answer Where were you and I Now, in these separate lives
