Rum and Black CoffeeA Poem by Michael G. SmithStaring into a cup of coffee lost in thoughtThe coffee’s black mixed with rum's
abyss dares me With a sense of bitterness somehow tasty And it foretells a fortune
about my fate Or is it placid reflections stemming from this human face If I relent,
Then I've lost, it’s won Heck! The smell alone wakes me stave From the smile that
resides wherein this cup… Is only temporary,
a mask for all, for some It takes very little thought to lap this up Than, watching it
consume one who’s already numb Can't think beyond the day which drags on
and on Till night time's ugliness succombs Here the liquid
black consumes conscience once again This time it’s not merely Metaphoric or even friend When you are all alone
with all your sins If there only was a
way… From the weight of them to be cleansed © 2013 Michael G. SmithReviews
