Where Does the River Run

Where Does the River Run

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Thoughts of a flowing river

"

O where does the river run
One thing I know is that it never strolls
But, slow it does
As it snakes just up ahead and around the bend

O where does the river run
I guess it flows where ever it wants

I heard it mumble as it ambled on
Something about tomorrow and homeward bound

O where does the river run
Well, let me tell you... from
Out of the sky downward to the setting sun
Past horizons line into the night beyond

O where does the river run
Into thoughts across shores of dreaming mind
From out of head, then to heart and soul
Coursing on and on, through my life it goes

O where does the river run...

The poem flows -- smooth and lyrical just like its subject. Almost like a song, I liked the repetition and new descriptions in each verse. The last full stanza connects physical to spiritual. Had me go back and reread it to see through the spiritual lense. A great one.

Thanks, another one out of thin air and almost wrote itself.

I think the last line added to the effectiveness of the poem. Nice use of parallelism. I love how nature inspires you. :)

I know not where the river runs, only that it runs deep. Great write.

This is beautiful, M.G. The river's gentle low carries your words.

I heard it mumble as it ambled on
Something about tomorrow and homeward bound...

Great image; I love this personification. Well done!
