The Music Box Dancer

The Music Box Dancer

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

A music box melody of painful melodies

"

Ballerina prisoner

   figurine

Such beauty

   locked away

Only dances... free
   when she sees

the light of day

But, in my mind
   Her twirls

are reminiscent

Anguish  memories

   round and round

So in silence

   I keep her under

latch and key

   hoping, forgiving

she will be

Until more

   in providence

Shall be found

Amid the soul's awaking

   Her fullness is grace

In ironies

   clockwork wound

O' one day sooner

   She will... dance

Her way back

   To thought...

of this man

Out of darkness

   a healed mind arise

an open box

   music into the light

Wow, Mike, Another impressive write! I also like the structure. It makes an easy read. Pretty understandable and the sadness is relatable. Well-written again, my friend. :)

This is great Mike, I loved it. I always felt sorry for the Ballerina; all alone on that box with no one else. :-( I loved it though.

But for a time you danced and now, you splendid nightingale, you sing.

Into the light of day...
A solo dancer - I always felt sorry for the ballerina in my music box. You brought her to life in this piece, Mike - and brought out the hope of united partners...

I also, like the poem states she can only when the box is open.
I was drawn to this due to music and dancing being my two favourite things on earth, and in the title no less. I definitely relate the idea of music and dance being a healing force, for life, love, relationships, for anything. Thank you for sharing

Wow Mike, you outdid yourself with this one....I wrote something similar quite a while ago, I need to find that now. Really love how you wound this one tightly around your pen, fabulous read!
