Imaginary Wars of RainA Poem by Michael G. SmithA child sitting by a window imagining what's pouring rain. All I can do today Like warrior troops upon parade
Enlisting goes on right outside my window An unseen army forms within my imagination And set the battle stations
Watching nature get pummeled hit Death more tragic than Macbeth
Melodramatic I deem the struggles Conflicts all pretend
And the raindrops Fly like arrows down from sky
In catapults of earth some fight on… From within the garden beyond the gate
And the war wages swifter, quicker on Of trunks and limbs of Orchard Apple's lair
Giving in, to pains in throes of overtures Mighty clashes among its groves
And chaos reigns sublime supreme Louder out of clouds like screams
Alas I think not, as all I watch submit and surrender Dries away make-believe so fun
So, now campaign of storm is done © 2013 Michael G. Smith |
