The Forgotten

The Forgotten

A Poem by Ariel
"

A poem based on "Lord of The Flies"

"
Along the beach, the soldiers stood
Bearing teeth, and gristle, and bone.
Waiting for the other men to come.
"Breach the beach" was their call of the wild.

They do not sleep peacefully at night
For images of life haunt them.
All they coud ask for is far away,
In a distant, more ordinary land.

Among the ferns, a loner stood,
Lost and forgotten like the trempled woods.
Failure and ashes fade in the stirring
Feathering sun of old.

Look here, beyond the rocks!
Do you not see the face of death?
A leering skull of self-pity shall
Always stare down at the face of humanity.

LIke so many sinking, brinking skips,
Their and our souls will be misplaced
In the crumbling, bumbling universe.

Such destitution within this. I love that story by the way. Shows the decline of mankind if civilization were to be stripped away. Just saw the original movie this past weekend. Kudos on the poem.
