There you were, dancing alone on that
Far away starry winter night.
I remember how you were then,
With your pale curls floating on the wind.
You laughed as you stared at the stars.
The winter breeze was cold then,
As it breathed down our backs like icy fire.
Your lips were like rubies, and they curved
Into the sweetest smile I know,
As you waltzed through the ankle-deep snow.
I was waiting among the trees then,
Watching for the best moment to step,
To skip, to leap, to dance.
And then you glided swiftly by,
And I took the chance of a lifetime.
We danced, alone in the gathering darkness.
With soft smiles on our lips we tangoed,
We mamboed, we jitterbugged, we danced!
And we were alive, for once, together
With our arms around each other.
And we loved, for once, on that night,
As we looked upon each other with tears in our eyes.
And something grew then, as the stars glowed,
And we knew then we'd never be alone.
Because our souls were still there,
Dancing along in the snow.
