INK PIECE

INK PIECE

A Poem by rachel D
"

no matter how badly it hurts no matter how much it kills. the beauty is worth the pain.

"

the ink is flowing from my pen again, this time it's bleeding red.....

people
 leave
  pieces
   everywhere
i leave my stain on them
they leave their stains on me

people
they pass in
 they pass through
  they pass out

some pull their flesh back for all to see
and others,
they rip the flesh right off of me

people give
 open & unlock
allowing me to taste their salty skin
and in return
i let them sink their teeth deep within

it's a wonderous thing.

people
 they pass in
  they pass through
   they pass out

it happens slow, it happens quick
needles and thread
sewing us together
our insides we pour
our chords we tangle and twist
the weaving and the grafting of
them & me

of "us"

until one decides to sever...

let it begin
 this open heart surgery
where breathing turns to gasping

and my fingers they are gripping

a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that i am losing.

then everything goes black

my body limp

the blood it turns

 from warm to cold.

 we flatline
our friendship sounds a piercing steady beep

people
 they pass in
  they pass through
   they pass out

withdrawl is like the pain,
which is inevitable.
excruciating, agonizing
searing, harrowing
grueling, consuming

consuming, so consuming

i love the way it works
i hate the way it hurts

people
they leave and they come back
 they leave and never return
it's the latter that i choke on
those ones who leave without a word

looking up.
i see the white lights that litter a clear night sky
each star represents a bullet i've been shot with.
take it out and stitch me up
cause i'm going out to battle again
and again
and again.
till i'm riddled with holes.

oh, rach it's been too long since i have read your beautiful work.

this piece of music is so perfect that the images were playing in my head. i could make a short film or theatrical piece out of this.
it's slightly different to your usual style... not that there's anything 'usual' about your understated brilliance... and i love it.

This was amazing! Every word flowed so perfectly and the pain was so evident but the last lines cut through so deep, the hope, the pain and the beauty all combining together... great write!

This is an excellent poem about friendship or simply someone who passed through our lives leaving a great impression on us.
Excellent, excellent imagery and emotion throughout with excellent flow.
Well done.

Friendship is a beautiful thing for sure. It's great to know one always has their friends to lean on when things get tough. But...people weave in and out of our lives every day. Friends come, friends go. I've grown distant with people I once called my best friends. Like you say....

i love the way it works
i hate the way it hurts

It's all part of being alive. Great peom Rachel.

Cheers,

Oh, this is amazing! I love everything about this piece. I love the way you started out with the first line and then went down from there with the red text. I related to this piece in such a profound way. I heard someone say once, "People walk in and out of your life like ghosts and after they've left, you find that they've left a part of themselves with you." The people we meet always change us in some small way whether we want them to or not. This is amazingly well said and written out.

Rachel!!! This is so AMAZING!! The cadence .. the beat ... sometimes that's all people have ... a great rhythm but no words to back it up. this is nothing like that! you have a perfect rhythm and the words to back it up!! Have you performed this in spoken word? the emotions are so raw, we all can relate .. we all have those people who have come in to our life, changed us entirely, and then wandered back out. we miss them to the point of tears but in spite of it ... we're still happy for the opportunity to have known them. this is a fav!
