1 2 SAME

1 2 SAME

A Poem by rachel D

i see in the dark circles

cause we both have them

i take a picture

he takes one too

our eyes they are mirrors

match match match

i play a song

he sings along

we sleep side by side

like he is mine

the child i have yet to own

the child i cannot call my own

but still he is mine

when he laughs

kicks back that head so full

i am laughing too

every word and move i make

he is taking notes

my little tape recorder

doesn't miss a single beat

everything is in sync

i want more time

12

he is

27

i am

best friends we are

i could mold him into whatever i wish

he's always looking up

to me

we shake the same nightmares

shiver the same fears

crack the same way

same same same

when i'm lying dead

he's living on for me

the extension cord

a blood tube that stretches

from my index finger to his

lifeline

two of us

we really are like one

but only i can carry

the limp sleeping boy

from couch to bed

tuck him in

and brush the hair from his eyes.

how is it

that when i sweep my lips across his forehead

whisper i love him

that he kisses my cool cheek

and tells me in his dead sleep whisper

"i love you too"?

it's an amazing love

and it goes on forever........

ah gees, i love my baby brother without time or space. he is bigger and stronger than me now, but not in my heart. always and ridiculously he will be my heartbeat. this is a fantastic ode to such an indescribable love.

thank you for this, rachel. WELL done! [the music rocks!]

Such a beautiful connection you have with your brother, and that is unusual for the gap in age. That's something truly special you have.

my favorite lines. Wonderful use of languange and metaphor! I love the tone and everything flows well. Great write!

Seriously? People think he's you're MIni-Me? LOL And why should they? It's not like there's a lick of resemblance there! LMAO

I tell you, it's interesting... when you have two children, only a few years apart, then the oldest seems to always look like one of the parents... strongly like one of the two... and then the next child almost always seems to favor a relative of the unfavored parent.... like I was my father's twin and my brother looked like my mom's brother.... I have a friend whose oldest daughter is her spitting image and her younger daughter looks like her dad's sister. Weird.

The neatest thing is though, that if there is a wide space between children, such as is the case with you and baby bro, then those siblings often look like twins... just not born at the same time, and sometimes it's even a half-sibling situation where they siblings both favor the shared parent - you'd think all that difference in one-half of the equation would make sure similarity impossible, but that's not the case.

Your little man would never be mistaken as someone else's brother... in fact, I suspect most people would look and wonder if he was your son... followed by many puzzled looks as they start doing the math in their head! LMAO

I think it's so wonderful that ya'll are that close! I'd say that the age difference makes it easier because there's no competitive nature as is typical in sibling rivalry... at least no like usual. LOL

It's a beautiful write and I'm sure your twin appreciates it very much. Yep, no doubts that you're related! LOL What a wonderful pic and poem!
