A Rose

A Rose

by Suzanne C. Suber

A rose has much to give and she must give quickly,

for she has little time.

She gives her soft petals to caress, to brush against your cheek,

and nestle to your nostrils when you inhale her delightful fragrance.

She beckons to you

”Take me in with all your senses.

Hear me call out to you.

Gaze upon my form and delicate design.

Feel the tenderness that I have for you.

Be awed with the beauty of my blush.

Enjoy my delicate scent.

Become enchanted by the power of my charm.

Do not be afraid,

for although I may cause you to bleed a little you if prick yourself on my protective thorns,

I would never attempt to willfully break your heart.

I pray that I have touched you and that you will keep me in your memory forever.

When you see a bud began to blossom,

remember that I am a symbol of love.

If you should see another rose of my caliber,

remember me,

and the dear, brief moment that we shared.

When you lay your head upon your pillow, dream of me.

But, never grieve for me or be embittered for not possessing me.

For we will always belong to one another in our hearts”.
