Building Houses

Building Houses

A Poem by realmwriter

Built a house of wood, a wildfire burned it to the ground.

Built a house of sand, a wave washed it to the sea.

Built a house of straw, a great wind scattered it to the plains.

Built a house of twigs, it's now a nest for eagles flying round.

Built a house of stone, a quack brought it to its knee.

Built a house of grass, now the roof leaks when it rains.

Built a house for tomorrow, tomorrow never came.

Built a house for yesterday, death followed before the finish.

Built a house for today, but the mortgage can't be paid.

Built a house to burn it down and watch it wash away.

Built a house for farmers hay and fortitude for bird of pray

Built a house to for basket weaving and making mulch for lawns.

Now its on to other things, to dreams that must be dreamed.

Now is time to stop complaining, its better than it seems.

Now is when faith rekindles in the face of such adversity.

Now is not the time for weakness but to prey for strength.

Now is not the time for cowardliness but to prey for courage.

Now is not the time for fear but prey to be steadfast.

Now is the time to learn from the past and take the path least trodden.

Now is the time to mend broken hearts and make apologies where needed.

Now is the time to work on yourself and rebuild what once was broken.

Now is the time, slay the demons, harness the dragon and ride it to the finish.

Now is the time to adjust what one thought they knew and open the other eye.

Now is the time to soften what years of sharp time and hard knocks have hardened.

Interesting twist on the spelling of prey as in hunt .If this was your intention, it is very deep brother. one could prey for strength and courage , because once fed one would regain strength and have the courage to face fear this is the way i read it.Great work!!

Your horrid spelling is such refreshing from my absence! It's a warm welcome to know you're still at it. This story was interesting because you're not just telling me one thing. You're telling me to improve. To build over. To live on. To hope for the tomarrow. Great insight.

I think this was a well written poem with some spelling errors I must add. I really hate to critique anyone's poems but I think you spent too much time on the first four stanzas about houses being built and don't see how all this ties in with the rest of the poem which is excellent. Maybe you could just have a couple of stanzas on the houses That is just my opinion but it is a very good poem otherwise..... well written

This poem is a necklace of gems, a kaleidoscope of brilliant lines...

I also like the change in tone and the switch from negativity to positivity...

Wonderful

I like this, the words are forthright, perfect, unminced.
