What Color Would You Paint the Sky?

What Color Would You Paint the Sky?

A Poem by realmwriter

One can paint the sky with words, isn't a picture worth a thousand of them?

If love was blue then it would match the sky above and be carried to our hearts on the wings of doves.

If love was green then it would look like the grass and crickets would sing its praises all night long.

If Love was yellow then it would be the sun. So intense and warm, so bright and full of joy, it would shine down on us like a big fuzzy blanket.

If love was a color, like blue, or green, or yellow, then we wouldn't need a paint brush to paint what is above us. We would use the love we all share between us to paint the sky.

Alas, love is red, crimson red, a bleeding at our feet, we pour all we have of it out and receive nothing in return.

Love is purple like the pain, we feel in the rain as it hits us, angry that it's not returned, and saddened by being cold and wet.

Love is like rust, we do everything we know to remove it, but we are powerless to stop its spread, it cuts like a jagged knifes edge, a wound slow to heal.

Love is clear like the waters of a crystal lake, yet we can't see through it to the damage it can do if it's not reflected back at us.

Love is black, like the coal we let gather at our feet, like our hardening hearts, to afraid to feel what would surely overwhelm our criticizing souls.

If love was a color then we could use it to paint what is above us, so what color would you paint the sky?

I would color it the same way you mention it in 8th stanza: " Love is clear like the waters of a crystal lake, yet we can't see through it to the damage it can do if it's not reflected back at us." perfect. Well done.

Raw, honest, creative and poignant... thanks so much for sharing this wonderful piece.. makes me want to run outside and see what colour the sky is today or to break out my paints and smatter walls with every colour I can find! Your heart of hope and dreaming are displayed here but also the brokeness of love unrequited.... tender and gentle and vulnerable... thank you.

abstract...deep. Provocative to thought I like this piece as it inspires the reader not only to enjoy it but moreover, readers are lead to think a bit on color psychology. Love is portrayed in different colors , different shades of one emotion, one principle. and we are left with a question, which would we choose . Good piece man.

I would paint the sky purple, my fondest memories are beneath purple skies. This is an amazing piece! Its an interesting concept, to choose what color you would want the sky to be. Super creative, and very well written. I really liked reading this.

I would paint the sky all colours! For love has every aspect to be truly felt in every colour! Even with pain love has no boundaries for our heart can only learn from what we are given, yet with the brightest colours we feel the light of our spirit & then love can feel lighter then air!

Your creation is magnificent for it shows how love can be so diverse in whatever colour you put out! Without pain & sadness how do we grow from love......I will paint the skies all of the colours for love is so many things to my soul!

Beautifully written my friend!

I would paint the sky with all colors, especially black and blue. I loved your poem and your mind set. It was about love and not the sky, at all. I think that the color of true love is "hazy." Great write!
