This Deafining Night

This Deafining Night

A Poem by realmwriter

Well thankfully I have the song of the crickets outside my window

lest I would catch no wink

No not one nod of my head would grace my pillow

to cradle me slow to sleep

The silence is mastering the hum of day

to make of it the noise this way

But what way comes a crack of sound

where none before could seem to be found?

As my bristled brow drifts nearer still

to the comfort of mine cloudless pillow

the crickets keep their plying lament

and tease from me the mysteries of slumbers sluggish decent

I sense the cloying cries of night

The shriek of silence closing out a lack of calm

Of worry and doubt, I sense the fading of the light

Building ever deeper in kind, the volley of voice voids my mind

In surety of maddening stillness

seeking solace in sound keeps concious comfort a singular find

But alas what eludes my wandering ears

has kept awake the crickets cries

Mine ears perk at disturbing disgruntled notes

where rumbling melodies play past glass

as if to cut deep those resting throats

Silence lay sweet, resting soundly asleep

next to and afor of the company I keep

But none finds me, this that I seek

in places where crickets play tunes tongue in cheek

In calm I find the log half cut

by the sawing of pillows and dreaming of what?

Damming still, I feel pressing from all around

the silence of a singular sound.

Which way the zzzs escape my reach?

Which, wiegh the noise, my pillow to teach.

In crashing white and blazing shroud, this frenetic pace is blurry loud

And within that cone of nothing of noise

an empty muteness of clawing cloys

Once again it's slumber is so desperately sought

but even crickets song, slumber can't be bought

So silence serenades the stillness of the fight

but in seeing the sounds, scraping my ears

the crickets finally sang me to sleep this deafening night.

Thank you Tate. I am very glad that you liked it.
I love the play on words in the title, and I would deafinitely leave it that way in the body of the poem, if it were me. I noticed the possessive crickets missing an apostrophe -- I think this is a great insomnia poem. Seems a lot of us are afflicted. The price we pay for creativity I assume ...

Well thank you. I'm happy that you might use it. Just remember I coined it. lol
I love that you sprinkled alliteration throughout this piece Derick.. but of course, you knew I would.. I love some of the phrasing in this piece.. do crickets have tongues?.. ha, I don't know, but you painted the scene well my friend... I think we have all been there a time or two...

Thank you very much April. I really like alliteration and when I can't sleep I seem to use it a lot.
