Welcome To the Jungle (A collaberation with April)

Welcome To the Jungle (A collaberation with April)

A Poem by realmwriter

“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can’t ride you unless your back is bent.”

"Martin Luther King, Jr

Take a long, hard glimpse of my jungle
we're living the “American dream.”
Downstream ain't ever what it seems
fakers scheming with corporate regimes.

So caught up in your glimmering lights
lost sight of the hungry man’s fights
greeted by hustle and bustle of mean city streets
ran off, still hungry, no shoes for our feet.

Too lost in the lies of your lives
to see guise in the devil’s disguise
another sheep where poison runs deep
baptized in the tears of another's demise.

Opulence at every turn, another soul sold
dresses and diamonds, glitter and gold.
Fake faces wearing, tearing- scathing sneers
people playing against each other's fears.

Fed tainted bread just to get ahead
choking on hypocrisy's thread
situated, fixated-caught in a web
distrust, disgust- population misled.

Rise out of poverty, push, pull, claw, fight

dip into reality, see the broken man’s plight

strangled by your crown, struggling as we drown

lift up this town, pushing ahead not down.

We are a family, scattered leaves in the wind

hidden on a whim behind life’s empty garbage bins

society’s stain, trodden in the pouring rain

ignored by grains of greed and bitter disdain.

Tears and fears sinking us as we shrink
power, position, pushed to the brink
caught, jailed, drained as we bled
hunger of the streets left us for dead...
