One Cleveland Junior High School

A Poem by abluehorseandflowers

One Cleveland Junior High School

Hunger gnaws at the soul
Distracts from what is now
When all thought is when do I eat
What she wanted last night
Two plus two equals food
Mom minus money leaves pain
Going to school waiting for lunch
Her only meal of the day
Angry and scared her teachers she hates
What do they really know about her
But they do know her and what can they do
When she walks home through
The easy money dope boys
Profiled for jail from birth to the tomb
Her friend disappeared the other day
The po-po looked around for a minute
But came back saying she ran away
Most would like to but where would they go
Where there is still no dinner to eat
Except from those who kidnap them
What kind of trade must she make
Only rape is there for attention
And brutal abuse for a meal
Once in a while someone escapes
Most are never heard from again
