The First Step

The First Step

A Poem by abluehorseandflowers

The First Step

A fog lying low close to the ground

Draping like Christmas cotton

From trees too tall to be covered

Drifting down through mountain gaps

Silently patiently cool and grey

Urging nothing else along

Awaiting the damp misty blanket

Feeling cool mist settle my face

The narrowing of perception concerns

Images real become obscure and vague

Dark outlines changing in meaning and shape

Though in essence remaining the same

The path goes on beyond what's in sight

Where its going and from where its been

But the path remains to accept a stride

Trust isn't necessary to know its still there

Twisting a course as it ever has done

It does take faith though to take the first step
