Warm November Day

Some thoughts on a decent day.

Bright, warm, light-jacket weather
in the middle of a rainy Canadian November
is like a beautiful girl
you can have a real conversation with
who laughs at your jokes
and shares your interests
but she's got a boyfriend
she's been seeing for the past couple years
and you know you haven't got a shot
even though she's right here.
It feels like cheating,
but there's nothing really wrong
and you know it won't last:
too soon she'll be gone
leaving just the impression
that the whole month isn't grim
but the moment she leaves,
the rain starts up again.
