LyricsA Poem by Scott A. WilliamsA commentary not limited to actual lyrics and songwriting, but to poetry and all creative endeavors. Interpret as you will.
Look, your hook is catchy
and the beat you've got is fine, but the rhymes you make are lousy and a couple awkward lines mar what's otherwise melodic, your voice is sounding tight but I think it's idiotic that the meaning's just not right. You sing of love as if it's something so far away and vague nothing jarring, nothing painful, nothing that makes you wanna beg: she smells nice, she looks pretty, she's a rainbow in your heart, but what the f**k? Those words are s****y Just tear 'em down and go restart. Your adjectives are madness, your similies are weak, your outlook's dumbly joyful even though your tune is bleak. Don't clutter up your metaphor and hope no-one misconstrues, Just keep it nice and simple, and make them feel the blues. I know you've lived through heartache, I know you know of pain, so if your verse is upbeat, sneak hurt into the refrain. No listener loves a winner, I've got news for you my son, you've got to really make them cry if you want a number one. © 2010 Scott A. Williams |
