Where It Comes From

Where It Comes From

A Poem by Scott A. Williams
"

Some thoughts on the writing process.

"
Somewhere deep
inside my mind
there is a man
who doesn't understand
the world around him
who doesn't think
he's worth anything to anybody
who worries that
he'll never be loved
who is sure
that there is nobody for him
who thinks
that he is nothing to anyone
who isn't much of a man
who doesn't get women
who loves tits
who fears death
who is easily frustrated
who knows a bunch of words
who sleeps late
who likes to sit
who is nervous
who is trying to find his way
out to the world.

I go see him
and kick him in the balls,
and make him talk to me
and that's where it all comes from.

Pretty good. I like it because it's simply put and makes the point. But who is the man outside? Is he very different?

If you can get him to wheeze the truth after a good kick, you have it better than most men!

people naturally tend to think that other people really think like they do, but it ain't so; it's a kind of hubris...it's good to talk to "him," more important to listen, and most important to accept...anyway, the big secret is that all those things you're looking for, you have to give 'em first to get 'em...hell of a thing, huh?
