Waiting on this Sunrise

Waiting on this Sunrise

A Poem by Scott A. Williams
"

Based on a real message someone left me at 6:30 AM Dec 26 2009

"
Man, I have been waiting
on this sunrise
for hours now,
out in the road,
trying to thumb my way home.
It's the day after Christmas
and I'm not sure how I got here,
It must've been the beer,
I was led by the beer.

I know you won't hear this message
until I'm already back,
I don't know why I called.
I don't know if I know anything at all.

I love you, I don't tell you that
often enough but I do, and if I don't
make it back in time to see you again,
know that I mean this, and I'm not just rambling,
I'm not just rambling because I'm drunk,
I mean I am drunk,
but I mean it.

Maybe I'll call you again
when the sun comes up.
We don't need to talk about this.

lovely. drunken dialing is a bad habit of mine, and I often wake after a nights adventure and shudder with what I said the night before, but damn if I didn't mean it!!!

Excellent last line. This is a nice piece that should make you poem proud.
