Sympathy For a Busted Aglet

Sympathy For a Busted Aglet

A Poem by Scott A. Williams
"

From Late 2007

"

So few people know

what an aglet is

much less care, but

to me it’s just another example

of how something can be snagged,

trod underfoot,

frayed,

disintegrated

and discarded.

(How like all those someones we know!)

And we miss it,

we do,

when it’s gone,

leaving bare

the frayed shoelaces

that can’t keep themselves together.

An aglet, of course, is the little plastic nib on the end of your shoelace, but you knew that already, didn't ya?

Love the wit paired with the intelligence.

I love how at first this poem seems just very cute but then by the middle you can relate to the other meaning of it.
