FlagA Poem by Scott De BuitléirInspired by the poem of the same title by Logan Preston.Raised over a city engulfed in flames When bullets and bravado declared us free, Only in death was our nation reborn; Only then could the layman see. But power-hungry fiends were not foreign alone, As corruption began from within; When sovereignty passed to the Holy See, Those flames were needed again. But still, this flag stands strong on hope; The need to declare all equal and free; The need to realise proclamations past, To move on, forgive, and succeed. To believe in a cloth ; green, white, and gold , To believe in the strength of its seams, Requires knowing that we are what makes the flag proud, Requires faith in what we could be. - August 26, 2016
