We were not ready for what was residing in the sewers. Sure, living in Germany, we knew all about the experiments the Nazis had performed in the camps. Or at least we thought we did.
It all started in a small neighborhood - several residents complained about the clanging of their pipes. When plumbers could not find a reason for the pipes to be acting up, most people just forgot about the incident. Until similar things began to happen one town over. Once it moved on to a third town, authorities began to consider that the issue wasn't in the residences, but in the sewers. After all, most of them were all interconnected. The question was: what would we find?
What we found was that we knew nothing. Our minds had not fathomed what terrors science was truly capable of. We killed it - or them - I'm not sure, it was one body but had many deformed faces. I can only pray that it was the only one. But something in my heart tells me that we are not so lucky.
