Writer Wednesday #6.2: Strange Picture PromptA Story by Sarah J DhueOn my blog, I am doing a new 'event' called Writer Wednesdays. I post a prompt and others(including me) write something based on that prompt. A weird thing happened the other
day. I noticed my skin getting rougher
and that it had taken on a strange hue.
When I flexed my fingers, they felt stiff and crackled. The next day I found it harder to
walk, my feet sinking deeper in the mud with each step. The same occurred to those around me. That night my hair seemed to have taken on a
strangely yellow hue. When I lay down to
sleep, tree branches scratched at my window, keeping me awake. The following day I was stiff that I
found it hard to climb out of bed. My
skin had grown even rougher and was covered in strange swirling patterns. After trying to trudge through the mud I
finally gave up, my feet sinking into the soil. And today I many others like
me. Strange creatures walked around
clumsily, watering the ground around our feet.
As I looked at them, I noticed the branch-like hands, the stumpy legs,
and leafy hair. And I realized
something: now we were the trees. © 2015 Sarah J Dhue |
