Eager anticipation on our daughter’s young face The early September feels crisp and cool It is our daughter’s first time to school With her heart wide open and a head full of why’s We stand in the doorway Her small hand in mine There I quietly contemplate a troubling thought It is the moment, sought or not, that makes its trace On her parents’ heart The moment we say farewell to the baby and the toddler, The one we cradled and coddled, and taught to walk and talk, It is the moment we turn her over to the tutelage of others, to begin the quest To find out the rest of what lies within and without A journey, that no doubt " leads to a not So distant June day, where the graduation march will play And as I look in her eyes I hope I see, A heart wide open and a head full of why’s © 2015 Snowbound Traveler |
