Life Isn't About Sex

Life Isn't About Sex

It's About Old

‘Life Isn’t About Sex’

         (It’s About Old!)

Am I mistaken?

Or did I misquote?

Let me ask you this question.

Let me put it to vote.

‘The older I get

Is the more that I know.'

Or, ‘The Sexier I get

Is the more that I show.’

I saw an old woman

A-walking the street.

She had no soft bounce

To make her look sweet.

She stumbled and shuffled,

As if in great pain.

It showed me why walking

Could make her insane.

Yet scrape way her wrinkles,

Tighten up her chin,

Throw away her platforms,

Lose fat - Be thin.

Dress her in lip-gloss,

Frillies and froth.

Tighten up her panties,

Maybe add even ‘Goth’.

Color her hair

With a sparkle or two.

Then tell me truly,

Is she Eighty? Twenty-two?

Now lets take that lady

Treat her to tea.

Ask her to tell us

What would it be?

Would she take Age?

Wisdom? and Such?

Or bring back her beauty

And lose her old crutch.

I’m sure for the moment

She’d consider the two.

But without hesitation

Those past years would rue.

She’d forget that the long years

Brought hardship and pain.

That in eighty more years

There’d be nothing to gain.

She’d still be that woman

A-walking the street,

Still dowdy and worn out

On broken old feet.

What a humorous way to convey a serious concept about life! It rings with truth! What young people do not realize is that inside these old bodies are our souls, who look in the mirror, saying , "What the hell happened"? We still feel 30 in spirit! It all seems to happen so fast! But I disagree with you, Old People are STILL sexy! Love your rhymes!

LSS,
"Life isn't about sex"
"Now, let's take that lady and treat her to tea?" This is such a beautiful line to me! Our grandmas and mothers, aunts and friends are the ones who truly understand our questions and fears. If you need love they know how.
I spend time with my mother at a restaurant and have lunch even if just at a fast food place. It is special.
"Without hesitation, those past years would rue, she'd forget that the past years brought hardship and pain....she'd still be that woman." We are all that person, whether young, old and everything in between.
We are special just because. Oh I pray we remember to love our seniors.
Blessings to you this was so good to read!

Inside the dearest most years-long and used body is a heart and spirit that's become more and more precious by putting on of the extra layers of living life, the learning of how to love, how to be loved. There's nothing more feminine or masculine and, if you like, more sexy, than the smiling, knowing face, warm hug and humour of someone who's really lived .. who's learned what's important between people. Age ripens a person, turns them into the most luscious of fruit, all ready to be picked! So there!

Thank you for sharing an absolutely delightful insight on aging, wisdom, youth, and beauty, and the relation between them. It certainly made me think of what my choice would be!

I really liked this. It's thoughtful and clever, not to mention quite amusing. It also makes me think, which I like in poetry.

I can't wait to read more from you. :)

I agree with everything Linda said. Wouldn't trade that wisdom for anything. Funny how it all seems to work backwards, huh?
I got quite a chuckle from this. Very cute with a serious message hidden beneath. Nice job! Thanks for sharing.

You think about a lot of the same things that I do. I suspect that you, like me, have discovered how physical beauty can be replaced with other kinds as we age. I see lots of women in their fifties that look pretty hot.
