The Word for NumbA Poem by LSSThe etymology of a word is often deeper than the word itself. What's in a Sixth Grade Vocabulary Word? The Etymology of 'Numb' (or - 'The Word for Numb')
Now 'Numb' is not a word that can stand upon its own; Like 'Dumb', That's misused for those, who's mind is 'Numb', And cannot think, if it is going or if it has come.
See 'Numb' is not a word that takes its 'Place'; Like 'Sum', Who knows the 'Difference' between some, Finding its way through 'Problems' - like,'Two' 'From' 'One'.
For 'Numb' cannot be mistaken for its predecessor; That 'Bum', Though not a name itself, its often used as 'One', With low regard for time itself, and liberal use of 'Rum'.
So 'Numb' must stand beside itself, not liking it at all; Too 'Hum-drum', Its cause for being left alone, is like sucking 'Thumb', The hammer that we hit it with, now breaks old rocks to 'Crumb'.
Let 'Numb' be never said about, it went away all calm; Like 'Plumb', It always got attentions, when used with great 'Aplomb', It made you stop to think, "Is it frozen hand or 'Thumb'?"
