Butterflies

Butterflies

A Poem by anon
"

This is a poem about my mother- we don't get along at all.

"
you told me once about your infatuation with butterflies
how whenever you saw a butterfly it reminded you of your mother
I adopted your same infatuation but through a different light

I saw a butterfly today
it was beautifully hideous,
I killed it.

if they can remind you of your mother why shouldn't they remind me of mine?
I love my mother don't get me wrong
but she doesn't deserve to be the beautifully hideous butterfly

she doesn't deserve to be a figment of my infatuation

she's a wonderful person, beautiful in her own ways
I'm more than proud of the things she's accomplished
but somewhere inside me I resent her

something inside of you is beautiful
something enabled you to adopt the love that a mother should have for her children
maybe the same thing that stopped my mother from adopting that same love

I see a butterfly
it brings up a sense of infatuation and hatred
it sends a chill up my spine and my stomach to my toes

I see a butterfly
and I kill it.
