A piece of Heaven

Just a short poem I wrote. This was written years ago, not from personal experience. I find inspiration from everywhere. Just a short note, poetry is not my strong suit, but I still wanted to share :)

I told him I loved him

he told me he cared

he promised forever

didn’t count on the tears

I took it for granted, he’d always

be there, that nothing could change

the love that we shared.

I watched him come in

late nights after work

he thought I was sleeping

never knew that I hurt

I looked past the lies, through

the truth I could see

I loved him, but still,

he didn’t love me

I went through hell to find a

little piece of heaven

I thought I could change

the way we were living

I thought I could bring him

back to my door and that 

we’d be happy just like before

I walked through the fire and was

burned by the pain, the hell that

I went through was sure to remain,

but I found a piece of Heaven wrapped

up in his arms, the devil at night

an angel by dawn

I wanted to leave so that I

could be free, from the shame

and the heartache, that love

had found me

His lies were like hot coals

burning my skin, leaving behind ashes

to blow in the wind

a jury of demons, my fate to decide

to doom me to hell and torture my pride

But I remained faithful and sometimes he tried

and gave me the hope, that our love

would survive

it was then in those moments

the sun would shine through bringing heaven

to earth as angels can do

I found my wings and

decided to fly

they were hidden behind the

tears I had cried

spirits bent, but not broken

my soul was at peace

my little piece of heaven, I’d found in me

undoubtedly polished and clean. i liked the way it moves, vey measured, taking the eyes down the page and still i have to ask because poetry still escapes me. Is the man cheating or is it just that they´re wrong for eachother?
