A/N: Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been really busy with school but I hope you all enjoy this chapter!
Eli and I sat there in a comfortable silence looking at the kingdom until the blue sky turned black with little white specks and a big, majestic moon shining over head. A girl could really get used to this.
I realized that Eli was staring at me so with a chuckle and questioned, “Why are you staring at me?”
A massive smile appeared on his face and he replied, “I want to show you something.” We stood up and he wrapped his arms around my waist and looked in my eyes. “Do you trust me?” He asked.
I searched his eyes to see if he was serious. When I realized he was I responded. “Out of the short, short time that I’ve known you, yes, I do in fact trust you.” I could tell that’s the response he was hoping for when he smiled from ear to ear.
“What?” I questioned now getting skeptical.
“Put your arms around me and hold on tight.” Eli said.
“What, why?” I questioned as I pushed myself back a little bit.
“You said you trust me right?” He asked. I nodded my head. “So, trust me.” Eli repeated. I took a deep breath and did as he said.
“Now what?” I asked looking up at him.
“Now, this.” He replied and jumped over the edge of the massive stone wall. I screamed at the top of my lungs and clinged to him as if my life depended on it because, well, it kind of did at this point.
We landed on something solid but I was too afraid to open my eyes. My whole body shook as I stood there still in Eli’s embrace. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around.
“Told you that you could trust me.” Eli said with a smirk.
“Where are we?” I questioned looking around what looked to be like some sort of cave.
“This is one of my favorite places. I wanted to show you because it’s special.” He replied.
“So, why’d you bring me here?” I asked totally clueless.
Eli looked at me smiling and replied. “You’re special.” We looked at each other as we shared a heartfelt moment.
I finally looked around and really took in the sight before me. There was a pool of water that stayed fill by a small waterfall. There was a hole in the ceiling that was just big enough to let in enough moonlight to reflect off of the water. The water turned the cave into a light show as blew light bounced off of the walls.
“This is so beautiful.” I stated in amazement.
“I know.” Eli replied. I turned to look at him and saw that he was already looking at me which caused me to blush. I turned my head away and I heard him give off a slight chuckle.
Next thing I know those two strong arms were wrapping around my front. I melted into him. I loved how easily I fit into him, like it was made specifically for me.
Eli leaned in and whispered in my ear, “How about we go for a swim.”
“I have nothing to swim in.” I replied breathlessly.
“It’s okay, we don’t need clothes to swim anyway.” He implied. I turned around in his arms and looked in his eyes. I could see that he was in all means serious regarding his gesture. I bit my lower lip and he grinned flirtatiously back at me. We stood like that for a few minutes simply taking in the moment.
Suddenly, we heard a loud growl come from outside of the cave. We slowly walked over to the entrance of the cave and looked out. What was once a beautiful forest was now dark and eerie. Eli drew his sword and pulled me behind him. We made our way out into the open. We walked a little ways before everything got alarmingly quiet. Not a single animal sound be heard.
We stopped in their tracks and looked around. We heard heavy breathing so they turned around and saw a bear. This bear was about twice as big as a grizzly bear. My mouth fell open and I looked up at it with wide eyes.
“Scarlett, hide.” Eli told me. He looked so brave, ready to fight the massive beast. I looked around and saw a little den so I ran and hid inside of it. I watched on from the little space. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might beat right out of my chest.
I watched as Eli took on the bear, grunting coming from both man and beast. I knew I should’ve been helping him but I don’t even have a weapon. I watched in horror as Eli was pushed around like a rag doll.
The bear brought up it’s massive paw and came down sending Eli into the air and crashing into a tree. Blood poured out of him from a the gaping claw marks on his abdomen and a cut on his head from the impact with the tree. He laid unconscious on the ground as the bear closed in.
‘I have to do something.’ I thought to myself. I crawled out of the little den, grabbed a rock and threw it as hard as I could at the bear. The rock hit the bear on the back of the head which caused it to turn around. I locked eyes with the animal and nothing but fear filled my body. I turned around and started running. I could hear the feet of the bear stomping after me. ‘What in the world am I going to do?’ I thought to myself. I looked around as I ran and quickly decided on a plan.
I climbed on top of a rock and jumped into the tree next to it. I climbed up higher and when the bear got close enough I jumped onto it’s back. It stood on it’s hind legs and let out a mighty roar. I held onto its fur and it took of running. I held on with all of my strength.
Suddenly it stopped dead in it’s tracks. My heart started to race as I looked around to see if I could figure out why this massive creature just stopped. There was nothing there. Out of all odds it laid down on the ground.
I climbed off of the back and stood cautiously next to it. It made a small grunt and turned it’s head looking me right in the eyes. I looked at it with fear of the unknown in my eyes.
“I’m sorry princess.” I heard a deep voice say. I looked around but I was alone.
“Did you- did you just talk?”
“Yes.”
“How can you talk, you’re a bear?”
“Stella sent me to kill you. You have overcome me princess, I will now serve you.” The bear got up and bowed on it’s two front legs. “How may I assist you?”
“First, do you have a name?”
“My name is Bo.”
“Why did my sister send you?”
“Like I said, she wanted me to kill you. But, you have overcome me so now I serve you.”
“Save Eli.” I demanded.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” Bo looked down in shame.
“What do you mean you can’t?” I exclaimed choking on my words.
“You can not save him.”
“Go to hell!” I yelled in anger as tears started to pour down my face. “Why did you do this when I was the one you were after?”
“He got in the way of my killing you, Stella made it clear to do whatever it took to kill you.”
“Well, here I am, right in front of you with nobody to stop you. Kill me!”
“I can not.”
“Why not?”
“I am to protect you now, not harm you.” I looked at the bear, anger blazing in my eyes. I turned away from Bo and started running as fast as I could toward the direction I thought Eli was. My vision was blurred from the tears and my mind was spinning inside my skull from the thoughts and my heart pounded inside of my chest from the overwhelming feeling of grief. ‘This can’t be happening.’ I thought to myself.
I stopped running and collapsed to the floor breathing heavily, sucking in as much air as I could each time as if my lungs would never be satisfied. I heard soft footsteps so I slowly looked up to see none other than my sister, Stella.
“You look terrible.” Her voice came through my ears as if I was hearing her from underwater but still it was laced with concern. Stella crouched down in front of me, placing a finger under my chin to lifting up my head. She smiled down at me. Her face was full of love not hate, gentle and calm. She rubbed the pad of her thumb over my cheek, wiping away the stray tears that still stained my face.
I closed my eyes and leaned into the welcoming touch. My breathing now came easily. A fresh set of tears started to fall from my eyes.
“Why are you crying?” Stella bent her head to meet my gaze.
I looked into her eyes and whispered, “Why don’t you just kill me already and get it over with?”
“Why would I want to kill you?”
“You’ve been trying to since we were kids.”
Stella gave a soft grin, “If I really wanted to kill you don’t you think I would’ve done it one of the other times we’ve met?”
“Why haven’t you?”
“I don’t want you dead.”
“That’s not what everybody else seems to think, including yourself.” I said with hurt evident in my voice.
“I won’t lie to you, I did want you dead, but I’ve changed. I want us to rule beside each other.”
“You’re not getting the kingdom.”
“That’s what you think. You see, if you’re by my side, if they see that I have your trust, they won’t dare do anything. We can be great together Scarlett. Don’t you want to be great?”
“I will be great, you’ll be locked up.”
“Do you really want to do that little sis?”
“You were going to kill you, you tried to. You kidnapped Emma and Evelyn.” Anger started to build up inside of me.
“You’re alive aren’t you, which proves that I won’t kill you, but we can make everybody else our slaves, we can be the most powerful people that ever ruled the kingdom.” I looked down at the ground, no longer able to stand looking at Stella.
“You say you won’t kill me yet you just tried. You killed Eli. He tried to save me from Bo, who you sent to kill me, he’s dead because of you.”
“He doesn’t matter.” Stella brushed him off like he was nothing. Those three words set a fire within me. I lunged forward and with one swift movement I took the knife from its place on her side and was on top of her with it held against her neck.
“I’m going to kill you.” I said through gritted teeth.
“Okay.” Stella replied with amusement.
“I swear I will.”
“Then do it.”
“You don’t think I will?”
“Nope.” Stella laughed. I ever so slightly pierced her skin with the tip of the knife. She looked at me, daring me to go further. I stared back at her through narrowed eyes.
“We’re not much different from each other, you and I.” Stella stated.
“I’m nothing like you.”
“Oh but you are. Here you are with a knife to my neck ready to kill me.”
“You killed an innocent person and tried to kill me. You, you’re a monster. I’d be killing you for a good cause, we’re nothing alike.”
“Murder is murder my dear sister, regardless of the reason.”
“That’s not true.”
“Is it?” We stayed there looking at each other in silence for a moment until Stella spoke again. “Kill me already and get it over with.”
“You want me to kill you?”
“Not particularly. But, I can see in your eyes how badly you want to kill me. Do it.” Stella encouraged.
“Why should I do what you want?”
“Look, either kill me or don’t, but whatever you’re going to do can you do it soon, I’m getting bored.”
“We’re sister’s.” I said out loud backing away from Stella.
“Technically yes.”
I started laughing when I replied, “You’re my sister and we both want to kill each other.” Stella chuckled nervously and slowly stood up off of the ground.
“Yeah, I guess that’s kind of funny.”
“I ran away from home with some guy that I don’t even know because you kidnapped Aunt Evelyn and Emma, then you tried to kill me but killed Eli instead and now I’m going to kill you.” I continued to laugh.
“You are far more twisted than I ever would’ve imagined.” I gradually stopped laughed and kneeled on the ground with my head facing down. I heard Stella walk over to me. When she reached me she put a hand on my back and kneeled down in front of me.
“Scarlett?” Stella’s voice was surprisingly filled with genuine concern.
“He’s dead.” Anger began to fill me again as tears formed at the edge of my eyes. “You killed him.” I added looking up to face Stella.
“Scarlett, let’s talk about this.”
“There’s nothing to talk about. You killed Eli.”
“Why are you getting so hurt over this? I mean, like you said, you didn’t even know him.”
“And yet, I still fell in love with him. In the short period of time that we spent together he somehow got me to love him then you took him from me.”
“You can’t love somebody you don’t know.” Stella lamely replied.
“How do you know, you’re incapable of loving anybody or anything. I doubt you don’t even like yourself.”
“Shut up.” Stella warned.
“That’s why you want mom and Aunt Evelyn to show you love because you can’t show it to yourself.”
“Scarlett, I’m warning you. Shut up or I’ll kill you.”
“We both know that’s not true. If it was you would’ve done it already.” A tear fell from Stella’s eye and she quickly turned her head to hide it from her sister but failed. “I don’t think you want me dead at all, I think you just want to scare me so you can take the kingdom. Well guess what, that’s not going to happen. Regardless of what happens, nobody is going to love you or care about you. You’re nothing.”
The last sentence echoed in Stella’s ears as she stumbled backward. She came to a stop when her back came into contact with a tree. She slid down it clenching her chest as she was unable to breath. I approached her and crouched down in front of her.
“Let me help you escape.” Upon saying that I drove the five inch dagger into Stella’s abdomen. I twisted it before pulling it out. Stella now clenched her stomach where blood pour out of her. Her eyes were wide, her skin was pale, lost of any and all color. She coughed and gagged as blood dripped from her mouth. I stood there watching her die a slow, painful death.
“I’m… Sorry.” Stella pushed out with her last breath before she collapsed on the ground dead. I stood there for another moment longer before I realization of what I had just done flooded over me. I looked down at my blood covered hand that held the equally blood covered danger. I looked down at Stella’s body where she laid in a puddle of dark red blood.
I stood there, stuck in place, unable to move from the guilt and shock of the crime I had committed mere moments ago. ‘What have I done?’ I thought to myself.
