Bittersweet Trap

Bittersweet Trap

A Poem by Scarlet M.

She hated every fiber of his being,

the way he would carelessly call out her name,

like it was something beautiful

he had engraved on his lips.

The way his eyes would light up

while looking at her,

as if she was an art exhibited,

only for his pleasure and his alone.

The way he would shower her with

offhand compliments, sugar coated words

and hopeful promises;

she knew he would never fulfill.

Yet still, she was overwhelmed by his entirety

believed in the one boundary she had set,

and he who effortlessly broke into her walls

became a tantalizing threat.

She tried her best to refuse him but brick by brick

It crumbles down on her feet;

turns out it was a wall

she could probably no longer rebuild.
