Thoughts of a SirenA Chapter by ScarefrowThe perspective and song of a sirenCome my sailor- man~ Grab my hand~ As I take you away~ To a wondrous place~ Filled with dreams~ Deep under the Sea~ There we will be~ Together, for eternity~ I sing along with my Siren sisters to the deadly song, luring their victims out of the safety of their boats into the dangerous waters, where we will strike them with our talon-like nails and caine teeth as we watch their corpse fall down into the depths of the sea to be fed on by the Kraken. I know not why we do this, but only that we do. Perhaps it is to fill this yearning we have inside ourselves to search for the God who took our precious friend, Persephone, away from us. As an act of vengeance, we lure each man who dares tread on our waters to their deaths. It does not bother me, though sometimes I tire of this life. Which is why I find myself straying away from my Island out into the vast Sea, and I have indeed found it more pleasing and venturous. Many Moons ago, I had saved this young lass from drowning during a storm. I was watching her dance around the end of the ship, and she was singing a song. I had found myself enjoying the melody and lyrics, and soon began to sing with her. She must have heard me because for a moment she stopped, looked around with a smile on her face and then continued to sing. The storm had grown cruel and I kept under the waves where it was the most safe, then I noticed a small figure floating down into the depths and I swam to it. It was the girl from before, she looked peaceful in her slumber-like state but I knew the water had taken her lungs and she would fall in the hands of the creatures even below us. So I grabbed her and swam to the surface where she soon coughed to let air into her lungs, and regained consciousness. We looked at each other then, and she had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen, even more so than a companion of mine. I am quite sure she thought the same with my blue eyes because she kept staring at me, and I found myself smiling at her. I took her to a safe place and waited with her until I saw the boat she was on earlier sailing over the horizon. I quickly dove under the water and watched from below the ship approach her to be reunited with her father. He looked around as if to find something, or someone, lurking and soon took her back with him. Though we are only pawns in the world of the Gods, that moment had taught me something. I live for myself. And so I kept on venturing out more often, and had another recent encounter with a human. It was a young man on a boat, trying to regain the sails from the deadly storm. I had been swimming when the waters took him, and for a moment I had the urge to let him be because he would have hushed the yearning in my soul for a moment- it always ever lasts a moment- but then he reminded me of the little girl I once saved. So I decided to save him too, just this once because it will not ever happen again. He called out for me when I left. To this day I still remember her singing voice, and his shouts. To this day I still remember their faces. And how wonderful it might look if she ever saw him, grown older now she must be. And how wonderful it might look for them to be staring at each other the same way I once saw a woman with the same hair color as the girls look at a man with her same eyes. Oh, how I long to see that moment they shared again… but also... Come my sailor- man~ Grab my hand~ As I take you away~ To a wondrous place~ Us Sirens sing of longing, yearning, for something we will never get, this must be our punishment. Us as Sirens despise men for they took the very thing we have ever loved, our hearts. Filled with dreams~ Deep under the Sea~ There we will be~ Together, for eternity~ As we watch the depths of the Sea take you, while we laugh… and laugh… and laugh...© 2024 Scarefrow |
