In The Name of Freedom

Prologue

The Sea, a vast place filled with the unknown; of truths and tales of fiction told. I remember this one particular tale of the Sea my father once told me, of a monstrous creature that protects an island of sultry women who lure men to their deaths with their sweet songs of longing to be free. My heart too longs of freedom, and I have only found that within the Sea itself, unlike my father.

One day when my father had returned from a voyage out on the briny deep he mentioned seeing this monstrous creature, looking like a Squid of sorts but giant as an island itself. Once rumors had gotten out that Captain ‘De Reeves had ‘supposedly’ seen a creature of folklore many Sailors had set out to the deep to try and find such a beast and when they never returned he was the one to blame. Put in the brinks for ‘spreading stories leading to deaths of innocent’ Captain ‘De Reeves now sits in prison waiting for the gallows, losing his freedom, unless his only offspring can find proof of such a beast. If one would ask me, which they tend not to, I say the reason for my father’s imprisonment is due to Commodore Silverson’s jealousy over the fact my mother chose my father instead of him.

I am here now, sailing the mighty Mare Liberum, in his name to find the truths this Sea of Secrets holds, and in doing so I have made a reputation of the name ‘De Reeves, so those who speak it will know fear will soon cross them.

“Father, I will seek vengeance for the wrong doings that have been placed upon you… I swear to it.”
