The Edge Of Kindness

The Edge Of Kindness

A Poem by James Lemons

I folded your smile
with so much care into
my pocket, for later,
when I'm sad and drunk
and unable to change
the channel on my life.

You will dance always
in my memory, a sad
sweet moment when I
actually stopped moving
to listen to life outside
my world. I loved your
tongue sliding down all
the important parts of me.

I drink to you now, alone
in my craziness, my torso
on display for whoever wants
to walk through me next. I'm
so easy, except I'm not. You
know the truth, baby. Knots
that betray the finger and a
heart that can't stand still.
