Standing before Picasso’s Guernica for the first time

The child’s eyes

Are vacant

With the gaze of god

Descending into

A pit

                Of prophetic ecstasy-

 

Of skin folding outward

And turning to naked bone-

 

                Of the broken blade-

               

Of the flowering grip-

 

                Of the ripped torso

                On the still beating horse-

 

Of the orgasmic scream

Burning in flame-

 

                Of the shame-

 

Of the crooning necks

That hang overhead-

 

                Of the wide eyed bull-

 

Of the throbbing skull-

 

                Of the nonsensical ramblings of war-

 

Of the eternal cry

Belting

From the

Mouth

                Of the child’s

                Mother
