The Compost:

The Compost:

A Poem by s.azeem
"

because i write too much on tests and told "this sometimes happens when you speak"

"

I am not a very concise person, I write too much,

And sometimes here,

And there.

Words break,

but they break into two.

I’m not a very concise person, papers and pens alike tremble,

but I am akin to their sheets and impaled by the world,

In love

And satisfied climbing those descending escalators.

I wish to listen to every word fall onto the ground like leaf litter and let all the creatures find refuge in them.

In yesterday’s leaves,

For as long as wind will, I refuse to rake my yard of unhappy neighbors

Because i love the creatures more.

t’s better to have the word and use it often or even too much, than to have no words at all…. i think you write quite a bit about life, love an nature…and very deeply i might add…. and i like the way you structured your piece with short phrases that mean a lot…. a very excellent write…and thank you for sharing!

What this says to me is that the poet has an awareness of their tendency to say more than absolutely necessary but that this is a deliberate choice based on a love for the word itself. It’s like going into a candy shop and being asked to choose just one thing out of dozens and feeling unable to narrow it down. Finally the poet tells us that these arbitrary rules to say less do not hold meaning for them and they are fine with holding a different view from what’s expected. I think this is a lovely way to explore the concept of being true to oneself as an artist. After all, we know best how to express what we mean. I really enjoyed this poem.

I loved the core thought and the way it was expressed in form. It communicated well the message and flowed in a most natural manner. The use of short lines emphasized the meaning. A wonderful first attempt.
