The Life of a 7th Grader

The Life of a 7th Grader

A Poem by sav
"

i wrote this last year. it describes some of the stories of my peer's lives.

"
She watches herself in the mirror
A tear runs down her cheek.
She hasn't eaten in three days
She can't sleep.
She wishes she were like the other girls
The ones with the perfect bodies.
And just like her sister
She isn't sorry.
He watches her patiently,
Praying she won't come near.
He can't even look into her eyes
Not after what happened last year.
She said something so hurtful,
His heart tore.
And because of that,
He doesn't want to be alive anymore.
Words can hurt
No matter what you say,
So, think before you speak
Then maybe your friend will be back the next day.
Just because someone looks happy
Doesn't mean they really are.
They might have wandered into the pit of sadness
They might have wandered too far.

People learn to make comparisons early, and often it makes them feel lacking. People also make remarks in jest, not realizing they may be deeply hurtful to others. This poem makes good observations about the pains young people experience during the process of growth. If we learn to take these situations as lessons, they can make that process productive.
