Chapter ThreeA Chapter by SarahThe car drives pass the city, but I cannot help but wonder
if this guy driving is rich or not. When he told me to get into his car and
stay there, I wasn’t expecting him to come out of the orphanage with all my
belongings, which isn’t that much in all honesty. All I have is clothes and
some other stuff, but it isn’t special. Although, he gave me my jewellery box,
I’m glad he did. In this box hold something special, my mother’s necklace. It
not a grand one at that, it’s just a plain, gold necklace, with this heart in
the middle. I don’t know if it opens or not, but I don’t want to break it. Kate
did say once that this thing holds a secret, but I’m not too sure.
We pass the city, entering the country side. It’s such an
amazing place in the country, I’ve never been to this side of town before and
already there are so many things I really love. The fields of fresh grass and
harvest, this is the way life’s meant to be. I’ve been missing out on so much,
I never realise it until now. We’re deep into the country, so I wonder where
we’re going. This is such a nice part of town; I don’t ever want this ride to
end. It’s so pretty; I want the scene to last forever. People may call me a
weird person, but I don’t care, I love this so much. However, the ride did end,
at some random town.
It’s just a small town, nothing special about it. People are
entering shops; they’re buying coffee and stuff like that. It’s kind of like
the city in one way, but not in the next. The stores aren’t as big as they are
in the city, they’re actually rather small. I don’t know who these people are,
but they seem nice. Everyone is just normal, some are arguing some are not, but
overall, they’re generally nice to me; although, I am not going to push my luck
with them. I’m not even out of the car yet and already people are looking at me
as if I’m some circus act.
Mark tells me to stay in here for a minute, so I do. I sigh,
noticing that there was one kid trying to do origami under a tree. I chuckle,
“Hey, kid!” Her head shot up, looking into my eyes, “Ya doing it wrong!” Oddly, she walks up to the car, raising a brow, “I am?” “Yeah.” I open the car, stepping out. I lean against the
bonnet of the car, holding out my hand, “Give it here; I wanna show ya
something, kid.” She gave it to me, unsure, “What are you gonna do?” I chuckle, “Just watch!” I unfold the paper, starting from
scratch. I started to fold it into a square, and then I went off, nit sure what
I was doing. It took a few attempts, but when I was done, I got a gasp. I
laugh; I made a swan. I smile, handing back to her, “There, that’s a swan for
ya!” She giggles, “Thanks! Hey, I haven’t seen you around before.
Are you new here?” I nod, “I’m an orphan that got fostered not too long ago,
actually. Yourself?” “I’ve always been here, all my life really!” She tilts her
head to one side, “How old are you?” I stroke my hair, “Ah, I believe I’m sixteen.” “You believe?” “I’m sixteen, kid. You?” “Eight.” “Whoa, ya gotta long way to go, ya know!” I laugh, sighing,
“So, ya eight. I must say, you don’t act ya age.” Her eyes went downward, “Well, mummy says that I’m too smart
for my age and daddy says that I should start acting my age, but I don’t know
what they mean…” I smile, ruffling her hair, “I think they’re trying to say
is that ya need some friends ya age. If not that then hey, I’m ya friend if ya
want!” “Really?!” When I nod, she hugs me, much to my displeasure,
“Awesome! Hey, what’s your name? I’m Molly, you?” I ruffle her hair some more, “Scarelette.” “Scarelette, I see you met Molly…” Mark laughs, “Molly, why
don’t you come over some time, eh?” “Thank you, Mark!” She looks back, seeing what I believe is
her mother, “Bye, nice to meet you, Scarelette!” She walks off.
Once I’m in the car again, Mark says that we’re nearly at
his home. I wonder what his house is like, is it big and glamorous or small? He
says that it’s not much, but its home. Not much, how can he say that? From what
I can tell, he has a family, a decent job and knows good people, so what’s
there to complain about? He has a good life, and I’m not too sure about mine
yet. I hope it turns out good; otherwise I’m just going to be lost in my mind
forever. Yet again, I’m already lost in my mind, so I don’t know what I’m
talking about. Still, I don’t see why people that are lucky as he is have to
complain, I’ll never understand.
We arrive at this house, and it wasn’t what I was expecting.
It’s massive, with its grand gardens and that fountain thing they only have in
the movies sitting in the middle, that’s so cool. From the corner of my eye, I
see this tree that has my name written all over it. It’s so lovely; it’s leaves
falling down in this autumn day, such a pretty sight. We got out of the car,
entering the house. It’s even bigger in here than it is out there! The staircase
on one side of the wall is leading to one out of the three floors here.
Paintings and drawings are hung all over the walls. This place is awesome!
However, with everything that is good there is a price. A
tap on my shoulder I feel, as I spun around to see Mark. He says that he has to
be at a meeting for his business, so he’ll be back by the end of the day. I
sigh in annoyance, not sure on what to do now. He says that I can explore the
place, but I really want to read. I found myself exploring for a study or
something, in search for a book. Oddly, what I did find was something that sunk
my heart.
