As here I stand before the lassies
To toast them with the raised glassies
Tis overwhelmed I find my mind
When contemplating womankind
The better half of humanity
Bastions of our sanity
And though their love is true and fair
At times they give us quite the scare
Old man Burns he had it right
For in the lassies he did delight
Matters not what curves they wield
Whether mountainous or leveled field
What color hair upon their head
Light or dark or bald or red
Each with the talent to draw the eye
And scatter wits across the sky
With all your perfect memory
You can recall with clarity
Details of ev’ry argument
Yet not how all your cash got spent
Twelve outfits tried ‘fore choosing one
While for four hours, we men been done.
And then exhausted we plead No more
As you drag us out onto the dance floor.
The strength of women surpasses man
Enduring pain that no man can
For midst that struggling painful strife
You bring to bear the gift of life.
My own dear lassie rescued me
From a dark obscurity
Her honest heart which called to mine
Illuminated love divine
Showed me a world beyond compare
And together each day share
The wonders of discovery
The bonds that grow ‘tween her and me
So even though we men be lost
And by your wiles turned and tossed
With these words I shall rest my case
Lassies make this a better place
