Sarees have a come a long way from being just simple attire for the bride or a household to popular attire among the celebrities. But like every other attire it also has a history of its own. According to historians and saree enthusiast the drape was initially unisex clothing for both men and women in the ancient India and the sub-continent. It usually was a piece of cloth that was draped around by men and women followed by a palloo or the remaining part hanging from one shoulder. With later course of time it became significant attire for the women and the men transferred to dhoti a piece of cloth adorned in the lower portion form the pelvic, parted in between the legs. With time the Indian Sarees changed from just being made of cotton to even silk, synthetic and other forms of textile.
How it is worn in India? Sarees are typically worn in a normal fashion by draping it around the under waist, covering the legs, followed by careful and even pleats in the lower portion just between the legs. The remaining portion is later draped around from the waist, covering the bosoms and rested on the shoulder which is known as anchal. The last remaining portion is hanged from the shoulder as it hangs from the shoulder to the back commonly on the right side. This hanging portion is known as the palloo and even used as veil by the Indian women. There are other kinds of way by which an Indian Saree is draped. Like the Bengali wear it without pleats in the middle of their legs and with the palloo extended from the right to left. The women in Maharashtra adorn it by draping the loose portion of the anterior pleats is strained between limbs and then inserted into rear of belly with the usual palloo. Other communities also wear sarees in various ways. Saree as wedding attire: Through centuries and time saree has been a common outfit for wedding in India. With time Wedding Sarees have changed from being just a normal looking cotton red saree to various sarees in silk and in different designs. There are various types of Indian Wedding Sarees available now-a-days, from silk, chiffon, heavy designs too many more.
