Why People Fade AwayA Poem by saratogaparty
People fade away because I don’t
Know maybe they’re just tired of all Of the work the equation takes to get Solved.
Or maybe they solved it too quickly becoming Unsatisfied and gone. Or they may have stuck around For a little while, but felt too guilty about some kind of Factor. Maybe this number, when multiplied with that one Becomes some kind of Ridiculous outcome that would just end in all Kinds of destruction.
Like, you’re too young for me, And life’s too quick to Get in our way Or you’re too far away It’s hard to really mean It. (And even if we do, then what? Then what?) Or even you expect too much from Me, I’m a man goddamnit. Or you’re just too reckless for me I need a baby by Wednesday and A 9-5 by Friday. I like three lumps of Sugar in my coffee and you forgot to switch The laundry now you have to wash it again Love you, bye.
I guess I always hated how Good I was at math.
I don’t even know what I’m looking for, How’re those grades coming along, anyway? Bet you haven’t thought about that in a while Or how that faucet’s still dripping and you need A smog check and the light in your bathroom has been Fucked for months. Don’t forget about the book you’ve been Meaning to finish writing or that poem you’ve been thinking about Or that song you’ve been dying to play Have you even washed your car yet? Gone t the grocery store? WHAT’S wrong with you Oh, that’s right, you’re doing it Alone.
Sometimes the equations are Worth solving, but it takes two to Tango, doesn’t it? © 2013 saratogapartyReviews
